Awesome Origami

I love these little inflatable rabbits. They are soo cute! Once folded you blow in the nose to inflate your little creation. My children were amazed!

Start with a square piece of paper. Although Origami paper will be easiest its not a necessity. I used standard white paper to create these.

1. Fold in half vertically and crease the line. Open and fold in half horizontally and crease the line. Open and you should end up with crease lines that look like this.

Mixing colours

Why leave teaching kids about mixing colours to paint and paper when you can make magic ice cubes, rainbow cake, and milk colour explosions instead. :)

  Magic Ice Cubes

A lovely simple little activity which gives you the opportunity to teach children about primary colours, mixing colours, and different temperatures.

First of all we filled our ice cube trays with water and added a couple of drops of red, yellow, and blue food dye. My children love playing with water so this went down really well. We put them in the freezer and left them for around four hours.

Once the ice cubes were ready we talked about how the cold had made the water into solid ice and then popped two different coloured cubes into a glass of water and watched the water change colour. My two year old was really excited seeing the water change and my four year old was hyper guessing what colour the water would turn with different combination of ice cubes.

Rainbow Cake

First of all whip up a batch of basic cake mixture and divide between six bowls.

250g butter
250g caster sugar
250g self raising flour
4 eggs
tbsp milk
drop of vanilla (or flavoring of your choice)

I ❤ Avengers Bookmarks

There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, so when we needed them, they could fight the battles that we never could...

Crafts by Amanda has brought these remarkable people together in the form of bookmarks. Check out the tutorial at http://craftsbyamanda.com

My Calendar

I believe the best way to make education easy for children is to incorporate it with day to day routines or activities. We have a morning ritual of filling in our magnetic calendar and singing nursery rhymes around the breakfast table.

It is something that everyone can do. It takes two minutes to fill in the calendar but there are lots of benefits for your children. It encourages reading and spelling. We have been doing it for the last year and my daughter is four and can read the days of the week and some of the months.  It is great for number recognition.  We have a weather section which is good for observation skills and encouraging children to think and asses whats going on around them. We sing the weather song before we check the weather.

Whats the weather, whats the weather, whats the weather like today.
Tell me children whats the weather, whats the weather like today.
Is it sunny! Is it rainy! Is it windy out today!
Tell me children whats the weather, whats the weather like today.

We may also sing a few other weather related songs such as
